11 Shooting brakes for Glorious 12th

We’ve always found it very peculiar that midsummer is celebrated on the earliest days of summer. Calendar-wise the summer’s middle takes place right now, doesn’t it? But as a matter of fact things autumn are already presenting themselves now. How about the celebration of Glorious Twelfth? Yes, the game and shooting seasons really starts tomorrow.

At least it’s a good for showing a proper shooting brake. Take this 1965 DB5, converted by Harold Radford coachbuilders Ltd. of London in a quantity of 11. Why so few? It was simply way too expensive. The price for the conversion is somewhat shrouded in mystery although marque connoisseurs mention something in the 3,000 GBP region. Quite a price when considered that the Aston itself came at just over 4,400 GBP. We asked former Radford-boss Eddie Collins recently, he told: “Radford’s were taking on jobs that were beyond the scope of the company. The actual work involved in building the Aston Martin estate car was colossal. The same went for a convertible version of the Volvo P1800 and the Mini hatchback, which needed immense amounts of work.” But admit it: the fact that so very few were made makes them ever the more so glorious now.
