Porsche’s 993-generation 911 was introduced in 1993, replacing the 964 generation, and signalled a major step forward for Porsche’s signature model as the 21st Century approached. Often regarded as the best 911 produced, the 993 was the final generation powered by the air-cooled flat-six engine that had been the 911’s calling card for the previous thirty years, before Porsche pivoted towards water cooling. The 993 was also the first generation to have a six-speed manual transmission fitted. Like the other 911s before it, the 993 was offered in a number of specifications during its production life including two-and-four-wheel drive, hard-and-soft top, and the rare Targa roof. Unlike previous 911 Targas, the 993 generation brought a sleek, modern approach, with an electrically operated sliding glass sunroof, allowing for year-round usability.
Guards Red is of course synonymous with 911s, but is rarely seen on a 993, let alone a manual Targa, making this a very rare proposition indeed. This rare specification is complemented by a black leather interior and red piping on the seats, which present well. As one of the most sought-after variants of Porsche’s final air-cooled 911 generation, this 993 Targa represents an increasingly scarce opportunity to acquire a truly special example of an automotive icon and has been carefully dry-stored and kept under cover. Owned for the last ten years by our vendor, he’s kept it well maintained and serviced by Porsche main dealers in Cardiff and Newport and by Precision Porsche and CMD Porsche (both marque specialists). The sliding Targa roof was repaired last year by Precision Porsche at a cost of over £3,000.00, and the front suspension was replaced in April 2018 by Cardiff Porsche at a cost of over £4,000.00. The car comes with a comprehensive service history which includes 16 Porsche service stamps. Consigned by Charlie McCreery
