A not so average '59 family photo sent to us by Martin Shelley, the youngest chap pictured. With an understated pride he mentions the fact that to his mother he was more of a burden than his older brother, sister (not pictured here) and father (the photographer) together. Two other family members shown are 'Trixie' the Henkel bubble and Haywire the pre-production prototype Bond Minicar that Martin's father had borrowed. Bubble-ologists will instantly identify a 1950-ish Bond Minicar MkB , shown recently in way-over-the-top restored condition. Now the reason why the Bond was called Haywire is explained by Martin: "... it was inclined to whisker a plug without notice which meant an involuntary stop to change plugs, with burnt fingers the inevitable outcome!" He does not explain the name Trixie, but we presume the Henkel had a more pleasing girlish character. Martin doesn't explain either the nature of trouble he caused, but fact is that in this time he laid the fundament of a life full with equally troublesome and attractive cars.
