You wouldn't expect too many classics on the Carribean island of Curacao. However there is a very active classic car club. All the cars have a WABI license plate indicating that they are at least 30 years old and registered as such. At the end of January some 25 cars, most of them American, met at the Church in Steenrijk before going out to diner. On the club website one origin of the WABI name is given. But there is another reason why classic cars are called WABI in Curacao. The Acacia Tortuosa (or Wabi in Curacao) is a tree very much specialised in surviving under difficult conditions. Much the same as cars on an island with salt air blowing through on a daily basis.
