Our San Francisco correspondent Roger Bowers spotted a 1949 Chevy truck near his home. Comparing it with the 1949 advert form his virtual collection he writes: "Actually, it was bigger...a 10 wheeler. A stakebed, dark green with alloy wheels, gleaming natural finish stakes and the bed looked like it might have been diamond-plate, maybe aluminum, but all I could see was the bright shine. Also, it had a crane behind the cab, boom and hook extending rearward. It looked sharp! Diesel power. I thought Chevy used gas engines, although maybe diesel wasused on the big-big jobs? Then again, maybe it wasn't stock?"
editor: we looked around on the web and found trains, boats and tractors earlier than 1950 with GM diesels, but no trucks. You?
