A Friend turns Fifty

After Citroën had launched the all new DS at the Paris Motor Show in 1955, the company felt the need to fill the wide gap between the luxury DS and the humble 2CV. They asked Flaminio Bertoni, who had also created the Traction Avant, the 2CV and the DS, to come up with a proposition. This resulted in the Prototyp C60, a cross between Panhard C24 styling and DS hydraulics. However, because of the costs involved production was out of the question. But from here on the design evolved into the Ami (French for Friend), which was introduced fifty years ago, on April 24th 1961 and quickly won the hearts of its many friends.
