A Laos Nissan-Mercury Mystery? (Update: 1952 Nissan 380)

Shot very near the spot where he found the Citroen truck in Laos, Hans van der Putten found this 'Nissan' truck. Now that's something of a riddle to us. The car looks a bit like a 1948/49 Mercury , but certainly not the same. Also it's not simple to find a Nissan picture of a similar truck. We're sure you will help us out in seconds or minutes. Did Nissan had a licence to build Mercury trucks right after the war? Or is it just sort of look-a-like inspired by US trucks that maybe were in use by US troops in Japan right after WWII ?
