A touch of zest at Zagato’s

Lancias and ladies have always made great duos, even if they come without wheels. This mystically smiling lady seems to like the car, adding a touch of zest to the factory floor in a coat equally red as the crate to store the fire hose. This actually is Zagato’s assembly line in the winter of 1963, where bodies for the Flaminia Sport and Super Sport were built. It was a brand new place as the famous carrozzeria had just moved over to Terrazzano di Rho, north of Milan. Did they also paint the cars here? It certainly looks like it. Even all the glass and brightwork seem to be fitted here. Fact is that the finished shells were transported to Lancia’s factory in Chivasso to marry them to all of Lancia’s technical bits and pieces there: another brand new factory at the time - there’s no doubt that Italian motoring industry was at its peak. Chivasso had it’s own 2.6 miles test track to make a lap or two before the Flaminias and Flavias were transported to Lancia’s dealer network. Speaking about the Flavia Sport: why not let the lady pose with that, too, while at Zagato's? ( text Jeroen Booij)
