We got what we wanted with our last car puzzle: lots of answers. Well done readers, thank you! The car in question was the Citroen 2CV Radar, or simply Radar, built by Robert Radar of Belgium. Alan Spencer: “You guys are tricky! Although the car is based on a French Citroën 2CV chassis and engine, the creator was the Belgian garage proprietor, Robert Radar.” Spot on, Alan. We didn’t lie, did we? And he continues: “The photo shows Radar proudly displaying his own car.” Several of you knew that, too. Fritz Hegemann: “Robert Radar himself shows his 1956 prototype of an 2CV roadster. The Liegois Citroen-dealer constructed a nice fiberglass-carosserie, accepted by Citroën and built in the Belgian plant in Forest from 1959 to 1962. Twenty cars finished, 40 more bodies left.” Built figures are a bit shaky, though, with most of you telling us there were 25 built and just five or six of them survive. Stuart Penketh wrote: “Robert Radar designed a fibreglass body in 1956, and built a few prototypes in his Citroën Garage in Liège, Belgium. The Belgian importer of Citroën decided to produce it as an official Citroën 2CV Radar.” Gerd Klioba is more specific on this matter: “He built 5 polyester bodies in 1956, three of them were sold as complete cars, two as kits. Some of them had engines enlarged to 500 cc, capable of 120 km/h. In 1958, twenty more cars were built by Citroën of Belgium, distinguishable by a small bonnet, no exterior door handles and a DS rear window as windscreen.” Superb! Many of you also mentioned the 120- or 125 km/h top speed and the 450 to 500 cc engines. There were, however, just two of you with an anorak fact to our heart. Don Siemers knew it and Jeffrey Vogel too: “As a footnote, in 2014 a garage in Belgium was planning to produce 7 new Radarinettes on 2CV chassis’”. We did not know this, and it made our day. (proof here). Who of the two wins? It’s Jeffrey for this time. Congratulations.
