Alfa hubcap? fillercap? mystery? (update: Alfa Romeo 6C2300/2500)

Alfa specialist Robert Babeliowsky recently found this chromed alloy Alfa Romeo cap in the old script. No Fusi or any other Alfa literature brought him an answer. Diameter of the threaded part is 80 mm. If the six angled shape is meant for a spanner, the spanner would need to have an inner diameter of 54 mm. Now the big question of course is...:  What Is It? And... For what car is it? Is it just a kitch hubcap for a cheapo alloy wheel? Or is it a filler cap for an oil sump or similar exotic gear? We tend to the first option. But we are curious to learn if anybody has seen a similar cap before..
