Austin Healey loves Citroen DS tyres!

Dougal 'Longstone' Cawley comes up with advise for Healey drivers: "One of the major problems the Austin Healey will throw up when it comes to fitting a suitable tyre is that the cars are naturally very low and there isn't a great deal of ground clearance under the chassis. The major problem arises with the fitment of modern (read: too low, too wide) rubber that is causing heavy numb steering and also  bottom bumps. Due to Longstone's vast experience with classic cars they have ascertained another radial option, the 180x15 Michelin XAS, designed by Michelin for the Citroën DS. The 180x15 Michelin XAS helps to combat these issues effectively. The XAS gives a better ride height being nearly the same overall diameter as the original 590x15 Dunlop, also the narrow footprint of the tyre will give the car a lighter more responsive feel through the steering.
Now check this picture: the red car is fitted with the 180HR15 Michelin XAS and you can see how it fills the wheel arch. The blue and white car is fitted with the 165R15 tyre leaving too much space around the tyre in the wheel arches and less clearance underneath.

From left to right: Pirelli Cinturato,  Avon CR6ZZ, Michelin XWX, Dunlop RS5 590H15 (original equipment) Michelin XAS 180HR15 (Longstones recommendation), Vredestein Sprint, Michelin XAS 165H15.
Of all the tyre options, we encourage people putting the 180HR15 Michelin XAS on a Healey, we frequently get very happy customers: It rides fantastically well and is a superior improvement over the Vredestein. It tracks infinitely better and feels much lighter in the steering.  (artwork by PostWarClassic)
