The Ferrari Club of Australia, founded at the very beginning of the 1970s is one of the oldest in the world. It was fitting then that the Ferrari Club in New South Wales and the ACT should, like many other tifosi, celebrate the 70th Anniversary of Ferrari.
A large gathering took place within the grounds of St Patrick’s Estate in Manly on Sunday 24th September when 105 cars bearing the famous prancing horse logo gathered on the forecourt in front of the majestic façade of the 1889 building. Built just nine years before Enzo Ferrari himself was born, St Patrick’s on the cliffs high above Manly Beach, was a perfect back drop for the cars.
Organiser Frank Cavasinni, veteran of state and national Ferrari events in Australia, also hosted a 'Concorso d’Eleganza'. Thirty beautiful examples produced by the Cavallino Rampante were judged in sunshine to commemorate the famous Italian marque founded in 1947. Whilst many of the cars on display and in the concours were quite modern, with many examples from the 21st Century perhaps reflecting the relative youth of Australia itself, there were some notable examples including a stunning F40. For lovers of the coachbuilt cars, the 275 in pride of place, and spotted by Alex Lance driving over the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge en-route to the event at Manly, said it all – driven by emotion.
