Cabrio Carnaval of 1949? (UPDATE: 1953-56, Cologne..!?)

Unlike the carnaval in Rio, the European carnaval is taking place in the weekend ahead of us. From the Horwitz collection is this unidentified and undated picture of two identical VW Cabriolets. Probably a bit later than the 1949 version, the year when the first one came out. Anyone who can date this picture?
