There’s no better way to establish a place, an era or a year than by looking at the cars on the street. Or is there? This lovely Kodachrome picture gives absolutely no doubt about the where and when – that’s an American suburban drive of the late 1950s or early 1960s. The Ford Country Sedan in superb two-tone dates back to 1957 or ’58, we think, and it looks as if it wasn’t too old when this shot froze time.
But it’s not just that. The Vespa scooter with classic windscreen fits in just right, too. And then there are the girls, or what they wear specifically. Something about those shorts, sandals and blouses oozes a time past. Oh, and haircuts and glasses are another fine indication. Who said we are all just car buffs?
