Estate lady shows the way to originality

They say that when you want to restore a car to its full authenticity the best thing to look at is an original brochure. Here, after all, you will find the car photographed in all its splendour with all the details just as they should be.

Looking at the PR photographs of this Saab 95 – a 1960 car as used in Saab’s official publicity material – it does indeed give a very good idea of what the car looked like when it was new. Materials used, colours, fabrics, details and exact placings – it’s all there. Note those thin stands to hinge that rear door. It would be easy to modify these in a slightly stronger variant. But that wouldn’t be original, wouldn’t it?

You can just wonder whether mud flaps were an optional extra or not, but then you should be able to find that in a brochure also…

The mud flaps were not an option, all Saabs of this era had them. I have them on my 1960 Saab 93F. Another source of originality would be to find vintage magazines with articles about a car when it was new. Lots of good info there.
