First take a good hard look at the photo above and see if you can spot the Allard. No...? We'll tell you, but first you will need to know that it's 1955 and that this picture was taken during the famous Tulip Rallye. The final driving test of the seventh edition was held at Zandvoort Racing circuit, which had to be driven anti-clockwise for ten rounds. Now look at the Ford Zephyr Six in the front row. The driver in shirt and black tie is none other than famous sports car builder Sidney Allard, who was driving for Ford at the time. Another picture shows him going flat out coming down the Hunzerug into the sharp corner in front of the grand stand. Note his wing-mirrors turned sideways for better streamlining! Despite this preparation Sidney Allard finished in third place in his class. This week the 2013 edition of the Tulip Rallye is being held. Here you can follow its progress.
