Michael Hilti, who is the former President of the Board of Directors of the Hilti Group, owned a 1972 BMW 2000 Touring when he first met his wife. Many years later she managed to track down a similar model, and gave it to Michael as a present. However, it was in a sad condition and needed a complete restoration which was carried out by the BMW Classic Customer Workshop. There was substantial bodywork damage to be corrected, but also the engine, electronics and interior fittings needed a complete overhaul. The body now features Alpina-spec metal wheel arch flarings, an interior with sports seats, and Alpina wheel rims. The car was also fitted with a completely rebuilt 5-speed sports transmission and a stainless steel sports exhaust system. Now back in A1 condition, the 2000 Touring was handed over ceremoniously at BMW Welt, bringing a bright smile on all faces.
