Humphrey returns to Snetterton

Maybe not our usual photo for a post-war article, but this one was taken in 1951. It goes to show that pre-war cars were still actively raced in post-war days. The picture was taken at Snetterton, one of the many RAF airfields that after the war were very suitable to be turned into racing circuits. About to start on the very first Snetterton Meeting, a sprint organized by the AMOC, are the ERA R11B 'Humphrey' (right) driven by Ken Wharton and the Dennis Poore Alfa. 'Humphrey' made many more appearances at Snetterton in the first thirty years of the circuit but has not been seen there since the 1970s. But next weekend Humprey, piloted by David Morris, will return to Snetterton for the first ever Historic Race held by the Vintage Sports Car Club at that race track. Around 200 Vintage and Historic cars of the Club's competitors have already agreed to come out and support the meeting on September 30, so why not you?
