Our postwar favorite at last weekend's extremely well visited British Cars & Lifestyle was this 1963 Daimler SP250 Dart. Many people speak out their horror about the way out design of the early polyester Brit. It was a sportscar adventure possibly taken up too lightly by the majestic Daimler works, but one things is sure, they wanted to create something different to compete with E-Types, Healeys and more and possibly to make a succesful entry in the US market. Helas, most of you know about the bad press around the car at that time. The problems with the early cars have been overblown for decades. No more 'automatically' opening doors in tight corners and things like that. Moreover, its design seems to have ripened over the years like a good burgundy, of which the livery of this example testifies... From this viewpoint the biscuit upholstery is maybe better described as cork. You may have noticed we have a weak spot for this way-out fish with the sweetest V8 on earth. The compact 2.5 litre alloy machine makes the car stand out of the British crowd. Add to that the name of Daimler and the subtle detailing of the car and you have a package that makes this choice stand out on any show, on any road, on any parking lot. More photos at Lex Classics
