Knitting the time away at Monza

We’re midway September and the first leaves have started to fall. It was the same on 12 September 1965 when the Grand Prix of Italy took place at the Monza track. That year with BRM and Brabham forming the main duelling teams - Stewart and Hill versus Gurney and Bonnier. Exiting times. Still then, the Brabham pit box seems calm. This looks to be Jo Bonniers car - but who’s the girl? She doesn’t seem to care much about the Formula 1 circus and a glamorous life style. If you need to wait the whole weekend for your beloved boy racer - what better way to spend it than knitting him a warm pullover or cardigan? Cosy in the sun, maybe this year’s last. And don’t think there’s anything like a racing programme or motoring magazine in her handbag below that folding chair - it’s much more likely to contain literature like this. (Jeroen Booij)
