Each year Bonhams holds their Annual Aston Martin Auction at Newport Pagnell. As always they succeed in getting a good selection of Astons and Lagonda's together, but there's always one that stands out from the crowd. And this time it's a 1952 DB2 Vantage Sports Saloon, that has led a good life. It was bought new by a young Frenchman, Michel Poberesjky, who wanted to be a racing driver. Driving under the name of ´Mike Sparken´ he was quite successful, a first place in Montlhéry in 1952; a fifth place in Agadir in 1953 and other races after that. Mike soon became good friends with Hermano da Silva Ramos, who also bought a DB2, and Peter Collins who lived in Paris to promote Aston Martin sales. They became a close-knit group of friends enjoying the good life in Paris together. After its racing career the DB2 has led a sheltered life with only two other owners after Mike Sparken, so its total mileage of only 32,708 kilometres looks to be correct.
