Master and Teacher

Fifty years ago a relative unknown (outside Scandinavia, that is) 31-year-old Swede came onto the rally world scene. In 1960 Erik "Mr. Saab" Carlsson shook the rallying world by taking his three-cylinder, 750 cc Saab 96 to victory in the RAC Rally – the first of a hat-trick of wins. Erik would go on to win the Monte Carlo rally twice, as well as the Acropolis and San Remo Rallies. In 1965 he wrote, together with his wife Pat Moss (also an accomplished rally driver) a book about “The art and technique of driving”. When browsing the book for this article, we noticed that we still use the methods that Pat demonstrated therein.
