A distracted glance at this Mustang might not earn it much attention but that would be a mistake indeed! It's crazy interesting on a lot of levels. A lingering look should reveal that it's markedly (16 inches shorter) small for a 'Stang, and is a true two-seater in fact. Then you discover it's made of fiberglass, not steel! It's a one-off prototype made for the car show circuit and is mounted a shortened pre-production Mustang chassis, one of a lot of ten. It's history is stranger still, being eventually purloined and then preserved by its designer who walled it up in a warehouse and then forgot to pay the rent. He couldn't bear to see it destroyed, it seems. When Ford didn't want it back, the insurance company eventually placed an ad...
The car will be on shown March 10 at the Amelia Island Concours in Bill Warner's latest off-the-wall class, called "What Were They Thinking?" Can't wait to see what other cars are in that class! If you haven't been to Amelia to the Concours, you're missing one of the world's best car shows.
