OMG!

That's Oh, My Goodness! We've become accustomed to outlandish cars at the annual Hershey car show (formally the Antique Automobile Club of America Eastern National Fall Meet),but this one pretty well takes the cake. It's a Mohs Safarikar, the brainchild of Bruce Baldwin Mohs, the irrepressible impresario of Mohs Seaplane Corporation of Madison Wisconsin. It showed up at last Saturday's show, which was mercifully blessed with sun after two days of downpours.

Built on an International Travelall chassis, it was intended for game hunting in Africa, hence a huge cargo compartment, room for eight people and sleeping accommodations in the rear. In the front are three bucket seats, accessed by doors that extend outward on hefty rods, presumably to provide impact protection from wild animals. The aluminum exterior is covered in padded naugahyde.

Power comes from an International Harvester 392 cubic inch V8; transmission is said to be automatic. Reportedly three were built, circa 1972, a bit modern for this site, but surely outrageousness is timeless. Moreover, it followed directly from Mohs' equally outrageous Ostentatienne Opera Sedan, a gargantuan limousine built in 1967 for his own use.
