Plum Crazy in Muscle Car Madness

What makes a cool car even cooler? Well, the right shade can do a lot in the looks department. So if late-1960s, early-1970s muscle cars are your thing, you will undoubtedly have heard of Plum Crazy – in our opinion one of the hippest hues ever to be used by a motor manufacturer.

1970 Dodge Charger

A couple of muscle cars in that very shade are to be offered in the Muscle Car Madness auction by Sonicbidder on the 22nd of this month in Jackson, Mississippi. First of them, and legendary for wearing this particular colour, is a 1970 Dodge Charger with a white vinyl interior and white accents. You’d have to fall for the 18-inch-wide wheels but there’s also a matching engine. From the seller’s blurb: “Packing a mean 440 under the hood and coloured in Plum Crazy, this 1970 Dodge Charger RT screams MOPAR!”

1970 Plymouth Barracuda

The next 1970 car up, and a good match for the Charger, is a Plymouth Barracuda. It has many similarities but also enough features to distinguish it from the Charger. Not only does it have single headlights but the car itself is slightly shorter and narrower. This one combines its purple paint with black and comes with 18-inch-wide alloys.

1970 Plymouth Satellite

Another from the 1970 Plymouth line-up is a Satellite in Plum Crazy and with a black leather interior. It’s got the 6.1-litre Hemi engine and 5-speed automatic plus electronic injection – and those 18-inch-wide wheels!

1997 Plymouth Prowler

Last purple delight is for the real nonconformist: a 1997 Plymouth Prowler, which was Chrysler’s wackiest offering of the late 2000s and no comparison to the not quite so wild PT Cruiser. It used the 3.5-litre V6, borrowed from Chrysler's saloons but now turned longitudinally and placed in an aluminium frame clad with aluminium panels. This one is said to come with low mileage. Future classic?
