Reader Jerry McDermott, who is a photo journalist from Tucson Arizona, recognized a lovely Ferrari 212 Export with Vignale body when he saw it on this website (article here). It’s not a car you easily forget about, isn’t it? Even if it has been more than 60 years since you last saw it! And so, Jerry began to plough his photographic files… Successful, too!
He wrote: “Digging through my files I found some photos I took back in 1957 of the subject Ferrari 212E which you featured a few months ago. The black and white photos were taken in June, 1957. The color photo of the car was taken at the 1957 Road America 500 exiting corner 5 where I was a flagman. The race drivers were McConnell/Ulrich. In the black and white photos note the extra gauges on the instrument panel.”
Those are great images Jerry! Thanks very much for getting in touch. It does strike us that, apart from the extra gauges which seem to have vanished at some stage, the car appears to have ad a single exterior colour in its early life. Especially since the Vignale body seemed just right for a two-tone paint job and most of the Vignale designs of this day coming in just that…
