Odometer reading: (?)10290 km. The car feels tired, has corrosion in places and has many of the little faults and greater imperfections that come with a 38 year old car that has seen lots of use and little TLC. Still your editor is in love with the cookie brown Rover P6 with its idiosyncratic design. Along the way, we found out where the Rover designers found inspiration for the bootlid mounted spare... To be honest, our work is suffering from this car. We will use any excuse to take it and go. Opening a door will free the finest british perfume of decaying leather and damp floor carpets. A fabulous odour which I haven't enjoyed in many years. Next is to pull the choke and ignite the never revitalised V8. It will start purring without grumble. The ride which this small solid car has to offer is still superb. It is heavy but easy to handle. It is potent, but not aggressive. It is eyecatching but not headturning. I think the experience is like driving a non existent subcompact Bentley or Rolls. Back to daily reality: our short trouble shooting list so far:
