Saab 96 for ever !

After the sad demise of the famous Swedish marque we heard little of Saab. Except that there is still a huge demand for parts for all cars built until 2 years ago which are still on the road and daily use.

Parts situation with the 'real' Saabs is slightly different but within club circles most needed items are relatively easy to get. Your editor's 'classic car career' started 40 years ago with two shortnose two-stroke cars from 1963, each bought at $ 50 (one of those bought at the former Saab dealer in Amsterdam 'De Snelheid' ). One had rolled over several times ( a relative safe activity with a 96), the other had a fine body but no engine. The marriage was simple and easy. We had a fabulous time with the moss green two stroke screamer, one of the very best cars we owned back then.

So we were delighted to stumble into this rally converted standard 96 (not the famous 850 GT with  three carbs) . The happy roaring 2strokes have become really rare these days. And environmental legislation will not give these a golden future. Which is sad as they are so good looking, so much fun to drive and crazy fast in the hands of a man like Erik Carlsson.
