John Elema sends this sunny shot: "With the holiday season approaching I thought it appropriate to send in this period picture of my family,  me behind the camera, on their way to Northsea beach resort Schoorl. The 1956/57 VW, reg. nr. VD-53-54, was my dad's company car and the windy spot the famous Dutch 'Afsluitdijk'. "

editor: Driving down the 20 mile long manmade seabarrier was nothing less than a sensation in that time. We remember people who did bring swimvests and survival gear before driving this very safe road....
