The affordable Alpine

Well, well. Renault plans to revive the Alpine marque. And they have a stunning prototype ready. Great news! But hang on. It could be Lotus Evora based, meaning it will be considerably larger and just about enter the supercar league. That makes you wonder about this 1965 Alpine ad: “The Gran Turismo with the price tag of a mass production car”. Wasn’t that one of the great advantages of the classic Alpine? With rorty sounds coming from an ordinary Renault engine breathing through bigger carbs and Devil exhaust? I am afraid a Lotus based Alpine is not going to be anything near the Clio or Megane price tag. But then of course I could be wrong…
