The end of TVR's glamour girls.

Cars come and cars go and for TVR the time seems to have come to definitely go. No more fibreglass fumes on Blackpool’s promenade; no more plans for another revival from a wooden shed. It’s over. Sad news, as TVR was known for a number of unique features. Swoopy lines, bright colours and loud engines, oh yes. But let’s not forget the biggest stunt TVR’s ex-boss Martin Lilley came up with - an industry’s first that made the British sports car builder notorious overnight: Lilley sprawled naked women over TVR’s latest model at the London Motor Show. A publicity stunt unseen before, and remembered as one of the greatest moments of genius of its time. Of course it worked, as with the gaze of the press well and truly focused upon the TVR stand, the cars made it to umpteen newspapers and articles - some about the suffragist’s movement rather then TVR’s though! It never the less saved TVR from the brink and was repeated frequently. In the 1980s TVR even came up with a Penthouse limited edition model in corporation with the saucy magazine. Not anymore. TVR is dead, long may TVR live!  (text Jeroen Booij, photo from his virtual collection)
