Some say that one man’s misfortune is another man’s opportunity. However, in some cases you could say ‘One country’s misfortune is another country’s opportunity’. It just struck to our minds when we heard about Coys upcoming classic car auction – in Greece of all places. You know faith in the Greek economical system has been down for a while. That makes it the more interesting to see what effect the financial collapse has on the classic car market. Fact is the upcoming sale features some interesting vehicles, although the estimates remain optimistic.
Highlight – for us – is the Fiat 600 by carrozzeria Viotti. The car was found in Italy only in 2012 in a much patinated (or original as we used to say) style. But rather than subject it immediately to a full restoration, the new Greek owner decided to preserve that time capsule look while fully overhauling the car’s mechanicals. Why he chose to fit shiny new hubcaps plus interior remains a bit of a mystery, though. But still we think it may be even cooler than the one we saw at Villa d’Este a couple of years ago (below). Oh – and it’s not the only baby coupe or convertible on offer. Will these Goggo, Bianchina and Spider soon make their Euro exit?
