The East African nation of Kenya has about 700,000 motor vehicles, perhaps 90 percent of them white Toyota Corollas. (Heavily represented in the remainder are old Peugeots from the last half century). As one drives across the Kitengela plain, south of Nairobi, heading to the amazing and eclectic Kitengela Glass works, one comes across an unusual sculpture garden, comprising people and creatures both realistic and imagined, and one odd automobile, looking like it descended from heaven in a bolt of lightning. No doubt that’s what the artist intended, but what sort of car is it? The lines are vaguely American-inspired, from the late 1960s or early ‘70s, at once Chrysleresque and GM-centric. A South African variant perhaps? We don’t know, so please tell us.
