The last days of Summer...

While we – here in our little part of the world – are slowly easing our way towards spring with trees starting to bloom and temperatures starting to rise; February is the last month of summer on the other side of the world. It’s when temperatures are at their warmest in New Zealand, with the country on its way towards autumn soon now.

It makes it the perfect moment to use this great photograph. A grand shot in every respect, if you ask us. The well-used car in super-Sixties outfit, the luggage and the way it is bonded to that little two-seater, the tiger print upholstery, the little Auckland souvenir flag and of course that spot! It was sent over to us by a friend, but the source is Pinterest where it was posted by John Roth. He wrote: “A Berkeley sports car is parked up at the lookout overlooking Matauri Bay & Motukawanui Island (north of Keri Keri in the far north) circa 1960-64 Berkeley Cars were produced in the UK, this one looks like a Berkeley Sports SE492 as it has internal door hinges, the SE492 had a 492cc transverse two-stroke three-cylinder, air-cooled engine producing 30bhp and weighed around 300 odd kg, 666 of this model were produced. Touring on Northland's gravel roads must have been exciting in this little roadster.”

What a photograph and what a place! We found Matauri Bay on New Zealand’s promotional website (click here) and think the picture on there must have been taken on the exact same spot, too. Now, we only wonder what happenened to the Berkeley…?
