Finding a Rickman motorcycle is quite hard as they are a bit thin on the ground. The British brothers Don & Derek Rickman were motocross champions and innovators, who started making their own frames. Seen here is a 1965 Spanish Metisse model offered by Bonhams at the Classic California Auction on November 12th. But what makes this bike extra special is the pinstriping by Von Dutch, who was a great artist. Gas tank, seat base, tailsection and sidepanels all show the man's handiwork. The left sidepanel is signed "Von Dutch, '47-'71," signifying the year he started pinstriping and the year this Rickman's bodywork was striped. Von Dutch has a lot of admirers (we are among them!) and they might be interested to know that this auction also includes a lot of Von Dutch memorabilia, for instance a set of photographs that Von Dutch wrote captions and small pictures on; a photograph of Von Dutch by Robert Knight and even a safe (!) he pinstriped. (lots 97 to 110 and 123 to 144).
