by Jon Terleth who likes to reconstruct the history hiding in found snapshots:
"We use new cars to bring us from A to B without a much joy, other than that you will turn up at B at (almost) the right time."
On the side I cherish a '79 Mercedes-Benz S-class and collect old toy cars between 1930 & 1980 and a variety of automobilia from the same period. When doing so it's nearly unavoidable to get some side-collections. One of them is a small, but lovely collection of, mostly, holiday snapshots made by random people who are posing with or driving their beloved cars. I found these at garage sales and fleamarkets. And like to imagine what they are thinking and feeling at the moment the image lands on the negative.
With a certain regulartity I like to show you my latest catch. The first one is actually a set of pictures, which is nice as in that way you have the chance find out who and where and when.
The first photo somewhere in Europe - probably Germany - is showing an American car (make/type?) and the plates are Dutch (untill 1977 they were dark blue and white numbers) so the man could be a random pedestrian that posed with a shiny good looking car, but I have reason to believe he is involved, because he turns up in other pics.
We found that the Perlenau Hotel still exists and is situated near Monschau, the Eiffel-mountains (Germany) which is a typical desitnation for Dutch tourists in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Here we see another nice car with Dutch licence-plates, at the same hotel, so they probably meet up there or not? It seems to be in another season, the shrubbery in front of the hotel is bigger on the photo with the Opel Admiral, so it could be the same couple, driving another car in a different year, and staying in their beloved Perlenau Hotel.... Well, it could, but then something strange happens on the last picture. Both cars are in what probably is the parking lot from a Hotel I suppose the Perlenau but now in the company of a nice BMW saloon and a slightly bland American car too.
So this couple of pictures learns us these people love to travel with there big GM cars and explore the area of Monschau and they go in style... Yet maybe not the right shoes.

In the article you mention the couple showing up in multiple pictures. Can I see the rest of the pictures? The gentleman looks a lot like my wife's grandfather, who happened to drive a big Buick in the late '50s and early '60s with Dutch license plates and went on vacation in the German Eifel multiple times!
Kind regards,
