Yangtze Delta Rally - Day 4: Changzhou to Xuancheng

Distance: 221 km

A fantastic day of driving, over mountains and through a bamboo forest. The car has proven its quality! Today we drove from modern Changzhou to Xuangcheng, next to the ocean.

The morning started with, what is now normal, a ceremony at Wuyue square. This is where a big shopping mall is located. It was packed with people waving at us and taking pictures. We left the city and came on reasonably good roads with not much traffic at all. Again a completely different side of China. At one point, we drove on a cliff next to the sea, which was absolutely amazing! Today it was again very sunny and warm, but the shade of the trees in the forest made it very pleasant. We saw little three-wheeled trucks packed with bamboo. Something that would never be allowed in Europe. But that was something we have seen before. Also, the enormous amount of people working is very noticeable. Where we have machines to do things, here in China they take “many hands make light work” almost too literally. Quite often not that efficient, but they get the work done (at least most of the time).

When we came closer to Xuancheng, the roads became worse and sometimes a part of the road was stripped away. Not something we and/or our classic cars really like. This required some concentration and alertness while driving. The finish was at a large hotel and we arrived in time. Tomorrow will be a resting day and after that, we continue our trip back to Shanghai.
