1976 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible | The Quail Auction 2026
Chassis No. 6L67S6Q182037
Cadillac entered the mid-1970s firmly established as the standard-bearer of American luxury, with the Eldorado Convertible occupying the pinnacle of the marque's lineup. Long, elegant, and effortlessly powerful, it embodied the confidence and theatricality that had long defined Cadillac. Even as the automotive landscape evolved, the Eldorado Convertible held its ground as a distinctly American expression of open-air luxury. By 1976, it stood alone as the last full-sized convertible offered by a domestic manufacturer, giving the model an outsized significance beyond its role as Cadillac's flagship. A revised 1977 lineup would close that chapter, leaving the 1976 Eldorado Convertible to stand as the celebrated "last American convertible."
As befitted Cadillac's flagship convertible, all 1976 Eldorados came equipped with an extensive list of standard features, including Soft Ray Glass, air-conditioning, automatic climate control, power windows, door locks, brakes and steering, a six-way power-adjustable seat, an AM/FM radio, and more. Built in December 1975, it was finished in Firethorn (dark red) Metallic over a White leather interior with matching Firethorn carpeting. Long-term family ownership and low miles define this exceptionally preserved example. Purchased new at Barrett Cadillac Inc. in Youngstown, Ohio, it remained within the same family for 50 years passed down from parents to son in 2012 before being acquired in 2026 by the consignor, a specialist in high-quality collector cars.
At the time of cataloging, this "End of an Era" Eldorado Convertible remains in exceptionally original condition, displaying just 6,478 original miles. One of the finest examples on offer, the car's condition is commensurate with its low, original mileage. Its highly original nature spans from the numerous factory-applied decals to minimal wear inside and out to its original owner's manual creating a virtual delivery experience 50 years after this "last American convertible" rolled off the assembly line. Instantly collectible from new, this near-time capsule example with original, 50-year single-family ownership is surely one of the finest survivors currently available.
